The Black Ghost was one of the early streamers, invented by Herbie Welch in the Rangeley Region of Maine, and sold at his shop on Haines Landing. He was a remarkable individual indeed, a guide in the region, fly shop owner, taxidermist, artist and sculptor. Some of his pieces of artwork can be found to this day in the Smithsonian. If there was an "inventor" of the feather wing streamer it was he. Carrie Stevens' carrier would not have been possible without his pioneering work with the feather wings, and he was instrumental in pushing sales of her early work through his shop.
